Garry Hewes of Hewes Concrete was in the house the early part of June polishing the concrete floors and, as always, his polished floors look beautiful! The concrete floors are a thermal mass and the most important part of the passive heating system. By coloring the concrete mix dark, the floors will be able to absorb more heat from the sunlight in the winter. The polishing process not only creates beautiful floors but also creates a more dense top surface which will be virtually maintenance free over its life. The floors are not 'sealed' in the traditional sense. They will only need to be cleaned with water and this lack of chemicals or maintenance compounds is a key component to sustainablity over the house life cycle. Thanks again to Garry Hewes for the donation!
